Wrap Reel and Balance Method

By this method of count testing the count of any type yarn can be calculated. Actually count shows physical properties of yarn.

Principle:

The count of yarn expresses fineness or coarseness. There are two ways of determining yarn count.

Let,
N= Count of yarn/ yarn number,
W=weight of the sample,
w= the unit of the weight sample,
l= the unit of length of the system,
L= the length of the sample,
Then,

In direct system, N=
W×l
L

In indirect system, N=
w×L
W×l

Apparatus:

Wrap reel (count tester), balance, yarn.

Specimen:

Cotton yarn (1 lea=120 yards)

Wrap reel machine description:

Wrap reel Balance

Generally this is a simple machine. The wrap reel may be hand or motor driven. It consists of a reel, yarn package; creel and a yarn guide which has a small sideway traverse to separate the yarn, length indicator warning bell.
N.B.: Automatically motor driver wrap reel has a motor rotating the reel.

Procedure:

  • At first the wrap reel is adjusted accurately.
  • Yarn is passed from the cone/package through guides to the reel.
  • The length of the sample was measured by the wrap reel counter.
  • The circumference of the reel may be varied generally it remains 1.5 yards. If the reel circumference is 1.5 yards then 80 revolution of reel produce a skein of 120 yards or a lea.
  • The sample is weight by balance the operation is repeated 12 to 16 times to take their means result.
  • After taking the means result then the count is calculated by the appropriate formula.
